With more than 180 wine tourism experts registered from 10 different countries and almost 20 research projects presented on the latest challenges and issues in wine tourism: the 2nd International Research Workshop in wine tourism was a great success!

By going online because of the COVID-19 restrictions, the online conference featured everything to be equally compared to a face-to-face conference and to even be a more enhanced experience as well.

Exploiting the international nature of the internet, the research workshop was able to bring together a greater and a more international audience of experts to share and discuss the latest trends in wine tourism.

The notion of resilience has been a recurring theme in the research papers presented in connection with the winegrowers identify, new business models and marketing strategies. Best practices to be developed in wine tourism have also been identified in India, Ethiopia, Japan, USA, New Zealand, Sweden, Italy, Spain, France, ...

The field trip in wine regions scheduled for the workshop was also not disadvantaged, as field trips to four wine regions in South Australia have been video-taped and shared with participants. It provided them the opportunity for an immersion into the wine tourism regions and offerings of South Australia as well as to hear first-hand-experience and learnings from wine tourism industry professionals.

The success of the event was made possible by the commitment of the organizing committee and of the participants, together with the support of the Chair in Wine and tourism’s sponsors: EM Strasbourg Business School, University of Strasbourg, University of South Australia, French Association of Tourism Management, and all wine industry experts from France and Australia.

The involvement of the participants over the two days of the conference was the best proof to convene this academic and industry workshop in wine tourism on an annual basis and continue to develop such a valuable international network.

See you in 2021 either in Santorini or online!

Best wishes
